Do you already own a business and need some help in deciding how to grow or sustain your business? Do you have an idea you think might be a good business but need some feedback as to how to proceed? Give the ISED Women's Business Center a call! We can help you determine what you need to accomplish before moving forward in your business idea. We can also recommend other resources as needed.
We support small business owners as they launch or expand their businesses. We provide in-depth business planning workshops, special topic seminars, and one-on-one technical assistance to entrepreneurs across Iowa. Our office is located in Des Moines. Business owners outside of Des Moines can receive counseling by email or over the phone.
Our goal is to equip current and potential small business owners with the knowledge and tools they need to make smart business decisions. We are a resource for Iowa business owners throughout their business journey.
As a Women's Business Center, we particularly work with women and people of color. The ISED Ventures Women's Business Center is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration.
General Business Training:
We offer BusinessPrep!, a three hour seminar that helps you identify the skills and resources you need to become a small business owner. This class is recommended to anyone considering starting a new business.
BusinessLaunch!, a 30 hour course, is recommended for individuals who want to start a new business or who feel that they could benefit from developing their business skills in order to grow their existing businesses.
One-on-one counseling is available for business owners and graduates of our BusinessLaunch! course. Our aim during counseling is to help the business owner make decisions, improve their skills and receive feedback on specific issues.

Some of the ways we can help are by:
Credit Bureau Report Review
Did you know that even if you are applying for a business loan, your lender will require that you have good personal credit? Your lender will most likely also require that you provide a personal guarantee- this means that even if your business is not able to make the loan payments, you are still responsible. We can help you understand how a bank or other lender will "see" your credit report. The Credit Bureau Report is included in our BusinessPrep! class.
Credit Counseling (Cost: Free)
Your credit history is history not destiny. You can improve your credit bureau report and your credit score. The WBC has certified credit counselors who can help you develop a plan of action to improve your credit report and make smarter financial decisions.
Loan Packaging (Cost: Free)
We can help you create a strong loan application for your lender. We can also help you determine what lenders you should approach. Loan packaging services are available to WBC members only.
